Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916.

Wounded in action, 20 July 1916, and admitted to No 2 Casualty Clearing Station the same day (gunshot wound, left wrist); transferred to No 3 Canadian Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 21 July 1916; to England, 22 July 1916; to No 1 Northern General Hospital, Newcastle, 23 July 1916; to No 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 5 September 1916; marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 12 October 1916.
