'These two M.M.P. were on Battle Straggler Post at HOOGE CRATER for 4 days and nights, from 24th to 27th inclusive and during the whole time they showed great personal courage and devotion to duty. When not on their post they were of great assistance in the evacuation of wounded and were untiring in their efforts to help, by acting as guides to Battalions coming up. The shelling was continuous and heavy, especially on the 25th and 26th during which they showed a great example in coolness and courage.'
