Wounded in action, 4 April 1918; admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance (bullet wound, back; family wrongly advised, owing to mutilated cable, that wound was to left leg), 4 April 1918; transferred to 10th General Hospital, Rouen, 5 April 1918; transferred to England, 7 April 1918. Discharged from 3rd Auxiliary Hospital to furlough, 26 April 1918, to report to No. 3 Convalescent Depot, Hurdcott, 10 May 1918. Marched in to No. 1 Convalescent Depot, Sutton Veny, 6 June 1918; to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge, 17 June 1918.

Proceeded overseas to France, 10 July 1918; rejoined unit in the field, 14 July 1918.

On leave in the United Kingdom, 13-27 March 1919. Appointed Lance Corporal, 11 April 1919. Admitted to 3rd Australian General Hospital, 1 May 1919 (measles); transferred to 46th Stationary Hospital, 2 May 1919; discharged to duty, Le Havre, 15 May 1919.
