Military Medal 'During the operations carried out by the Battalion from 29th September to 1st October near BELLICOURT Private CRACKEL showed the greatest courage and devotion to duty. When the No. 1 of his Lewis Gun team was killed by an enemy bullet Private CRACKEL immediately operated the gun. At the moment a large body of hostile troops were advancing within 50 yards and he was being sniped at from the flanks. His courage and skill at a critical time greatly contributed to the repulse of the enemy.'
