Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led a fighting patrol, and attempted to enter a strongly wired enemy trench, but was held up by machine-gun fire. He at once took up a position with a Lewis gun on the enemy's flank, engaged the machine gun at point-blank range, and silenced it.
