Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and resource at Peronne on 1 September, 1918. When an enemy field gun was captured this man helped another to work it, and brought fire to bear on the enemy, who were assembling in a quarry, and inflicted severe casualties, compelling them to disperse. Later, he assisted in laying and maintaining a telephone line across ground under heavy fire.'
