Proceeded from Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 31 May 1915. To hospital, Gallipoli, 7 July 1915 (heart disease); returned to duty, 10 July 1915. Admitted to No 1 Stationary Hospital, Lemnos, 11 July 1915 (morbus carbis); transferred to England, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, 24 July 1915; transferred to Australian Auxiliary Hospital Harefield, 10 August 1915; discharged, 25 September 1915.

Commenced return to Australia from Portland on board 'HT 'Runic', 7 November 1915; discharged (medically unfit for further service), 17 February 1916.

Re-embarked from Adelaide on board HT 'Ballarat' as Pte, No 2287, 4th Reinforcement, 50th Bn, 12 August 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 30 September 1916. Transferred to and taken on strength of 43rd Bn, 25 October 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 31 December 1916.
