Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at ZONNEBEKE near YPRES on 26th October, 1917. This man was one of a stretcher squad which, despite the heavy shelling with H.E. and gas shells to which the road was subjected, managed to carry many patients for 48 hours on end, along a very difficult track to a place of comparative safety at the Wagon Loading Post, Pte. CRAWFORD's disregard of personal danger in order to further the interests and attend to the comfort of his patients was a continual incentive and example, stimulating all those who saw him at work.'
