'This N.C.O. has performed the duties of Company Sergeant-Major for a period two years, during which he has rendered services of the greatest value. In particular during the recent operations near AMIENS. His personal control of transport and Company personnel, extending over each successive stage of the advance, was most valuable and in no small degree contributed to the efficient working of the communications. At all times he has taken keen interest in the welfare of the Company personnel, and all administrative matters connected therewith. His efficiency, tact, initiative and zeal in the management of these matter under most trying conditions, have been of the greatest value.'
