Military Medal

'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. During the relief of the Battalion at BROODSEINDE RIDGE on night 5th October, 1917, this man was acting as a guide and runner. Before the relieving troops reached our trenches the enemy opened a heavy barrage. Regardless of his personal safety he moved about in the open and directed men to cover in shell holes and unoccupied trenches - his prompt and brave action saved the lives of many. Later, he acted as runner and traversed shell swept zones without hesitation. his gallant conduct earned him the admiration of all.'
