'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 30th September 1918 at BELLICOURT Sapper CRITICHLEY carried out repairs to four Wells under very heavy shell-fire. He worked continuously at his job from 0700 till 1800, and through reliefs were sent up to take over the work he refused to leave till his job was completed, and it was entirely due to his devotion to duty and untiring energy that the work was completed and the water supply, of which these Wells were sole source in the locality, made available for the Infantry.'
