War service: taken on strength, 9th Light Horse Regiment, Heliopolis, Egypt, 12 January 1916. Found guilty of disobeying Standing Orders: awarded 7 days' confined to barracks, 9 February 1916. Rejoined 9th Light Horse, 22 February 1916. Moved out to Serapeum, 17 May 1916. Wounded in action, El Ferdan (gun shot wound, right knee, severe), 10 August 1916; admitted to 1st Australian Stationary Hospital, Ismailia, 14 August 1916; to 3rd Australian General Hospital, 21 August 1916. Commenced return to Australia on board 'Ascanius', 1 September 1916; disembarked in Adelaide, 29 September 1916; discharged, 14 January 1917. Granted a pension of 3 pounds per fortnight, and thirty shillings for wife, from 15 January 1917; pensions subsequently cancelled when claimant no longer incapacitated for earning a living.
