Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and quickness of perception in dealing with an enemy post which put up a strong resistance with bombs and machine gun fire. Having located the post on a daylight reconnaissance he led forward a party of six and succeeded in killing nine of the enemy and taking two prisoners and a machine gun, which were brought in under heavy fire from other enemy posts.'
