Distinguished Service Order 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in leading the front line of his battalion during a reconnaissance in force on the enemy position. He repeatedly traversed the front line under heavy fire to superintend the action of the companies. Later in the day he personally directed the necessary movements to break off the action, showing marked ability and initiative.'
