'In the attack on the morning of 19th near MORLANCOURT when all the officers of "D' Company had become casualties, this N.C.O. took command continued the attack and captured his sector of the objective in the face of heavy machine gun fire. He showed great courage and coolness, setting a splendid example to his men and in doing most valuable work in consolidation of the captured position throughout the day.'
