Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry during operations on 1 and 2 September, 1918, near Peronne. Going forward alone with his Lewis gun, he succeeded in silencing an enemy gun. He then dashed into the position, capturing fifty prisoners, including two officers, who appeared to be lying in wait for the further advance.'

Twice his gun position was blown out by the enemy artillery fire but CULL stuck to his gun. When the attack was launched he did excellent work by enfilading the German troops who were attacking the Battalion on the left. He killed a number of the enemy, and by his action showed great initiative and courage.'
