Three separate period of war service

(1) Egypt, Gallipoli

Wounded in action, Gallipoli, 25 August 1915 (splintered glass in eye when a bullet struck his periscope); transferred to 1st Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, 30 August 1915. Discharged to light duty; readmitted to 1 AGH, 30 October 1915; discharged to light duty, 10 November 1915; readmitted to 1 AGH, 22 November 1915; discharged to light duty, 24 November 1915.

Commenced return to Australia on board HS 'Wandilla', 13 December 1915; discharged, 22 May 1916.

(2) Re-enlisted, 5 April 1917, and embarked as No. 3620, Private, 45th Bn, 10th Reinforcement, from Sydney on board HMAT A74 'Marathon', 10 May 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 20 July 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 12 December 1917; taken on strength, 4th Field Ambulance, 29 January 1918.

Admitted to hospital, 26 March 1918; transferred to England, 22 May 1918. Commenced return to Australia, 21 July 1918 (gun shot wound, right eye [1915

, and defective vision].

(3) Attested, 17 May 1919, and embarked from Sydney as 85776, Private, Special Service, AIGF, Kursk Guard, 27 May 1919; disembarked London, 23 July 1919.

Granted leave, 24 July 1919, to report to No. 2 Group, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, 8 August 1919.
