Proceeded from Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 30 August 1915. Disembarked Alexandria from Mudros, 7 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation).

Found guilty, 16 January 1916, of when on active service being absent without leave, 24 hours: forfeited 1 day's pay and admonished.

Transferred to Camel Corps, Canal Zone, 24 January 1916. Appointed Lance Corporal, 24 February 1916. Reverted to the ranks on admission to hospital, 22 April 1916; admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Abbassia, 23 April 1916; discharged to duty, 31 May 1916; rejoined unit, 1 June 1916; rejoined No 4 Company, 23 June 1916.

Sick to hospital, 7 September 1916; admitted to 3rd Australian General Hospital, Cairo, 18 September 1916 (gastritis); transferred to British Red Cross Convalescent Hospital, Montazah, 20 September 1916; discharged to duty, 2 October 1916.

Found guilty, 3 February 1917, for when on active service being improperly dressed in that he was wearing a cap not the regulation pattern: admonished.

Admitted to Military Hospital, Choubra, 29 April 1918 (enteric); transferred to Convalescent Depot, Abbassia, 9 June 1918; to ABD Company, 13 June 1918. Marched in to 5th Light Horse Brigade, Moascar, 25 June 1918.

Marched into and taken on strength, 5th Light Horse Field Ambulance from 1st Bn, Imperial Camel Corps, 19 July 1918.

Admitted to 14th Australian General Hospital, Port Said, 7 November 1918 (lumbago); transferred to Rest Camp, 14 November 1918.

Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Euripides', 14 March 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 25 April 1919; discharged, 30 September 1919.
