'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations east of YPRES in months of September, October, and November, 1917. Lance Corporal CURLING was frequently in charge of working paties under most dangerous circumstances, and invariably set a splendid example to his men by his courage and leadership. Lance Corporal CURLING did excellent work in operations at POZIERES and BULLECOURT.'
