War service: Mesopotamia Reported taken prisoner of war, Kut el Amara. Subsequently reported to have died whilst a POW at Nisibin, about 16 June 1917. Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal Imperial War Graves Commission wrote to Australian Graves Service, 25 November 1917, that 'It was found necessary to remove the bodies of the British Sailors and soldiers buried in this Cemetery [Nisibin] and to rebury them in Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery, Iraq, in order to secure the reverent maintenance of the graves in perpetuity. It is very much regretted, however, that when this work was undertaken, the grave of Air Mechanic D. Curran could not be found ... and it is feared that it can only be said that all trace of his grave has been lost.' |
