Military Medal 'Is brought to notice for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near HEBEUTERNE on the 29th March 1918, when his platoon was engaged on a raiding the enemy's trenches. When the Platoon was held up, he went forward at great personal risk to reconnoitre the position. Although quite close to the enemy trenches, he was not satisfied with the information that he had obtained, and crept out in the open to get a better view. In doing so he was wounded in the head by a piece of bomb. He did not give in, although suffering great pain, until he had delivered the information he had so gallantly obtained to his Platoon Commander. He then collapsed and was carried to the rear in an unconscious condition. He is strongly recommended for distinction.'
