Military Medal 'On September 5th near DOINGT during the operations of forcing the passage of the SOMME the Company to which Private W. CURRY belonged experienced great trouble from a nest of enemy machine guns, which held up the advance in that part of the line. Private CURRY mounted a captured German machine gun and engaged in a duel lasting over an hour with the hostile post. He was in a very exposed position and had numerous stoppages which he remedied every time. The enemy guns shot away the sight of the gun he was using but he continued to fire until the post was subdued. He inflicted numerous casualties on the enemy, killing six. His courage, skill and devotion to duty are worthy of the highest praise.'
