War service: joined 13th Bn at Mudros (Gallipoli campaign), 23 October 1915; disembarked Alexandria from Mudros, 3 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 1 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 8 June 1916. Found guilty, 8 October 1916, of being absent without leave from 7 pm, 8 October, to 7 am, 9 October 1916: awarded 2 days Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 3 days pay. Found guilty, 6 November 1916, of being absent from parade, 7.15-8.15 pm: awarded 14 days Field Punishment No 2. Wounded in action, 4 February 1917 (gun shot wound, neck and back); admitted to 12th Field Ambulance, 6 February 1917; transferred to 3rd Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 7 February 1917 (wound and bronchitis). Transferred to England, 12 February 1917, and admitted same day to 3rd Australian General Hospital, Brighton (wound: slight); transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 5 March 1917.
