Military Medal

'During the operations West of BELLENGLISE on 18th/19th September, 1918, he acted as C.S.M. of his Company. When all Officers except the Company Commander had become casualties he took charge of two platoons and led them forward to sunken road under heavy machine gun fire. He supervised their digging in and generally assisted the Company Commander. At night he did splendid work getting rations and ammunition up to the front line. His work was very fine throughout.'
