Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty during operations at VILLERS BRETONNEUX on 3rd May, 1918. He was in charge of a gun and handled his team in an excellent manner. When the infantry withdrew receiving no orders, he dug in where he was, and then found he was within a few yards of the enemy, but by mere bluff kept them away. When the situation was quiet he withdrew to the infantry, getting all his men and gun back safely. His coolness and bravery set a fine example to his men.'
