'At BULLECOURT on 11th April 1917 for valuable services rendered during the operations on April 10th and 11th East of BULLECOURT. This Non Commissioned Officer acted as personal runner to the Battalion Commander and he was untiring in his efforts to do his duty. Time and time again he went through the enemy barrage in full view of snipers to get messages through and gain information. He showed splendid bravery and was an example to all.'
