Military Medal 'During the operations East of HERBECOURT near PERONNE, on 29th August 1918, this N.C.O. displayed great courage and initiative. With great skill he pushed forward accompanied by one man. They surprised a machine gun post and captured the machine gun and crew which was holding up the advancing troops. Again on the 2nd September 1918 he led his men through a heavy enemy barrage to a forward position, from which he covered the advance of the remainder of his party. His splendid example, fearlessness, and utter disregard of danger were a fine example to his men.'
