Military Medal 'During the operations near ZONNEBEKE on 26th September, 1917, this N.C.O. was in charge of a party detailed to lay a tape track from Brigade Headquarters to the front line, a distance of 3000 yards, over heavily shelled ground, the last 1300 yards being in full view of enemy snipers and machine guns. The tape was laid speedily, reaching the front line approximately an hour after its capture from the enemy, and thus giving great assistance to the runners and stretcher bearers. Great coolness and judgement was needed for the location of this track. This N.C.O. appeared to disregard all danger setting a splendid example to those with him and the many passing him at work.'
