Military Medal

'Is brought to notice for gallantry and devotion to duty displayed by him during operations near ZONEBEKE on the 26th September, 1917. This man is a Regimental Stretcher Bearer. For a period of over 24 hours under very heavy machine gun and shell fire, he was continuously assisting to carry wounded men to the rear. The carry was a long and difficult one owing to the rough and swampy nature of the ground, but he carried throughout with great cheerfulness and a complete disregard of danger. He is recommended for distinction.'
