Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at ZONNEBEKE, outside YPRES, on 26th October, 1917 Pte. DARLEY showed the greatest coolness under heavy shell fire while in charge of a stretcher squad. His untiring energy and contempt of personal danger was the main incentive which enabled his squad to bring many men through barrage fire to the Wagon Loading Post. He worked on for 48 hours until himself gassed and slightly wounded in the neck.'
