'In the attack on Mont St. Quentin, on 1 September, 1918, his platoon commander being killed, he assumed command and when intense machine gun fire rendered further advance impossible, he voluntarily went forward alone to reconnoitre a sap from which the trouble came. Meeting the enemy he bombed them with such effect tha he cleared the sap and captured five prisoners.'

Military Medal

'During the attack on MONTBREHAIN, east of PERONNE, on 5th October, 1918, this N.C.O. used his Lewis gun with reckless courage and great skill. At one stage of the advance, a nest of enemy machine guns held up the left flank. In the midst of violent machine gun fire Corporal DART led his section right across to the flank, and brought enfilade fire to bear with such accuracy that he overcame the enemy fire and the post was captured. Later on a similar situation arose and again Corporal DART went forward in the face of heavy machine gun fire, but this time alone, and again he successfully covered the advance. During the consolidation too he supervised the placing of the guns, and here again his work was characterised by the same consummate courage and skill. Recommended for DCM, 29th August, 1918.'
