Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of a raiding party of three officers and fifty other ranks. He led his men with such dash that the enemy were taken completely by surprise, one machine gun and ten prisoners were taken, three dug outs bombed, and a number of the enemy killed. No casualties were suffered by the party.'
