Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When in charge of a post he discovered from three deserters that many more of the enemy were willing to desert. Having warned all the other posts, he, with two other ranks, accompanied by a covering party, got in behind the enemy's forward line. More than a score of the enemy returned with the party, which was fired on from the flank. He showed fine determination and initiative.'
