'A regimental stretcher bearer. During the attack near MOUQUET FARM on night 29th/30th August, 1916, he took charge of a party of 20 wounded men and conducted from the Regimental Advanced Aid Post to the 13th Field Ambulance. On return he went to assist in bringing in wounded from another part of the line to Aid Post, traversing a most dangerous trench in the process. Although nearly dead beat he was one of the first to volunteer to take another wounded man back to the Ambulance Station. He is always the first to volunteer for hard dangerous work.'
