Military Medal 'During the nights of 9th/10th and 10th/11th June 1917 he displayed great courage, endurance and devotion to duty in carrying wounded steadily for 43 hours on end, always under Shell Fire which was frequently very heavy, especially during the second night. By his soldierly example and cheerful behaviour he encouraged his comrades to keep going right through a very severe spell of work, also during the second night 10th/11th June 1917 he attended to one of his fellow stretcher bearers who was badly wounded, while under a very heavy barrage near MESSINES.'
