Military Medal 'On 5th October, 1918 in the attack on MONTBREHAIN, north of ST. QUENTIN while advancing up a gully his platoon was subjected to heavy machine gun fire from a railway embankment. in spite of the heavy casualties sustained in the section, Corporal DAVIS was superb as a section commander and handled his section so well that the capture of four machine guns on the railway embankment was in a large measure due to his good work. He arranged a small diversion on the flank and then led a frontal bayonet charge that captured the post. Throughout the whole day he was to the fore and set his section an excellent example of courage and resourcefulness.'
