Granted leave for Non-Military Employment, 30 October 1919, to work in the motor trade at Four Posts Motor Garage, Southampton. Did not return from NME, 31 October 1919; declared illegal absentee as from 1 November 1919; discharged from the AIF, 1 April 1920. Court of Inquiry, AIF Headquarters, 4 February 1920, heard evidence that Davis had left the employ of Four Posts Motor Garage on 17 September 1919, and had applied for discharge in the United Kingdom 'for the purposes of going into partnership in the Motor Trade at Four Posts Motor Garage': the application was rejected by the Director General of the Repatriation and Demobilization Department on the grounds of 'insufficient reasons.
