Military Medal 'During the night operations north west of POZIERES on night 29th/30th August, 1916, the work of Signaller DAWE was most creditable. Knowing that his Brigadier was supervising operations from an advanced position, he went out under a heavy barrage and laid a direct telephone line to the G.O.C. Brigade, although it was outside the area of his own lien patrol. He then tapped in at a point about halfway and stayed out in an exposed position for four hours listening. Whenever the line broke he immediately repaired it. During the four hours the enemy maintained a heavy barrage, but his plucky and strenuous endeavours kept the communications intact.'
