'This man was attached to No 3 Section 5th Australian Divisional Signal Company as runner. During the operations of the Brigade in period 26th - 30th September he was employed carrying important despatches between the Relay posts in Glencorse and Polygon Wood and during whole time displayed gallantry and an extreme willingness, volunteering frequently when it was not his time to go out. On all occasions he delivered his despatches quickly and safely and displayed a devotion to duty which was commendable.'
