War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 3 June 1916; admitted to ship's hospital at sea, 30 July 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 3 August 1916 (sick); admitted to Plymouth Hospital. Marched in to 1st NSW Training Brigade, No 7 Camp, Perham Downs, from Devonport Military Hospital, 8 September 1916, after 10 days' sick leave. Proceeded overseas to France, 8 October 1916. Embarked for England from Calais on board HS 'Dieppe', 31 October 1916 (chronic bronchitis). Discharged from Military Hospital, Dover, 1 November 1916, and granted furlough, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 16 November 1916. Admitted to Delhi Hospital, Perham Downs, 23 November 1916 (bronchitis). Medical report, 21 December 1916, stated that his bronchitis was 'aggravated by military service and exposure'. Marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 6 January 1917. Admitted sick to Sydney Hall, 26 January 1917.
