Embarked Sydney, 11 May 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 10 July 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 5 December 1916.

Transferred to 12th Field Artillery Brigade, 6 February 1917, and posted to 45th Battery, in the field, 9 February 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 16 September 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 26 September 1917.

Detached to 1st Anzac Corps Gas School, Belgium, 2 December 1917.

Found guilty, 11 February 1917, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he allowed a man to go on horse exercising parade without a bandolier: reprimanded.

Found guilty, 27 November 1917, of neglect to the conduct of good order and military discipline in that he failed to report Driver Shelton absent from Tattoo parade: admonished.

Rejoined unit from detachment to 1st Anzac Corps Gas School, 18 December 1917.

Detached to Lewis Gun School, 26 May 1918.

Promoted Temporary Corporal, 1 July 1918; Corporal, 21 August 1918.

Wounded in action, 26 September 1918 (gun shot wound, right shoulder); admitted to 55th Casualty Clearing Station, 27 September 1918, and transferred same day to Ambulance Train No 19; admitted to 5th General Hospital, Rouen, 27 September 1918; transferred to Ambulance Train No 48, and thence to England, 29 September 1918, and admitted to Beaufort War Hospital, Bristol, 30 September 1918. Discharged on furlough, 8 November 1918, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 22 November 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Nestor', 12 December 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 1 February 1919, and proceeded to Broadmeadows awaiting transport to Brisbane; discharged (medically unfit), Brisbane, 26 March 1919.
