'For coolness and devotion to duty shown by him on the afternoon of 15th August, 1916, at POZIERES when owing to heavy hostile artillery fire the wires connecting 45th Battalion and 48th Battalion Headquarters were cut. Notwithstanding the heavy barrage, Private DAWSON was successful in establishing communication.'
