Military Medal

'On the 8th August, 1918, during operations on the SOMME east of HAMEL, this N.C.O. displayed great gallantry, organising power and initiative. In spite of the heavy machine gun fire against his platoon, he fought his way to his objective through the dense fog, keeping good communication throughout the advance, and inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. His platoon reached its objective without casualties and properly organised.'
