War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Alexandria, 6 June 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 16 June 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 17 July 1916; taken on strength, 51st Bn, in the field, 21 August 1916. Wounded in action, 3 September 1916 (gun shot wound, right hand); admitted to 12th General Hospital, Rouen, 4 September 1916; transferred to England, 6 September 1916, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Birmingham, 7 September 1916 (gun shot wound, wrist: severe). Proceeded overseas to France, 2 November 1916; rejoined 51st Bn, in the field, 17 November 1916. Tried by Field General Court Martial, 21 December 1916, of charge when on Active Service dispobeying a lawful command given by his superior Officer; pleaded 'Not Guilty'; found 'Guilty', and sentenced to 2 years' imprisonment with hard labour. Sentence suspended, 1 January 1917. Admitted to 12th Australian Field Ambulance, 19 February 1917 (mumps), and transferred to Becourt Chateau; to 44th Casualty Clearing Station, 26 February 1917 (lympathic glands); to 22nd General Hospital, Camiers, 7 March 1917 (abscess, neck); to England, 13 March 1917, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, 14 March 1917. Marched into No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, from furlough, 25 April 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 19 September 1917; rejoined 51st Bn, in the field, 30 September 1917.
