Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in again and again leading ration parties through hostile barrage to the front line. On encountering an exceptionally heavy barrage, he worked his party through gaps in it with admirable promptness and determination, finally leading them back without casualties. His good leadership and presence of mind kept up a constant supply of rations to the men fighting in the front, and saved many casualties in his party.'
