Military Medal 'On the morning of the 6th September 1918, in front on TINCOURT, the Officer in charge of NO. 766, Sergeant JOSEPH JAMES DELLER'S Platoon was wounded almost immediately on coming into action, the Platoon being subject to very heavy Machine Gun fire from enemy posts immediately to their front. Sergeant DELLER immediately took charge of his men, quickly organising them, dealt with and overcame the enemy position by flanking movements. Acting entirely on his own initiative, he showed an immediate grasp of the situation, and proved himself to be a most skilful leader in a moment of emergency. During the entire operation, he showed great courage and fearlessness, setting a fine example to his men, thus enabling them to renew the advance.'
