Embarked Melbourne, 21 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, 28 December 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 28 February 1917; taken on strength, 3rd Pioneer Bn, 16 March 1917.

Attached to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station for temporary duty, 26 November 1917; rejoined unit, 13 December 1917.

On leave to united Kingdom, 20 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 8 April 1918. Found guilty, 3 April April 1918, of when returning from English leave absenting himself without leave for 1 day, 3 April 1918: forfeited 2 days' pay; total forfeiture: 3 days' pay.

Transferred to 3rd Division Machine Gun Bn, 5 June 1918. Attached to 3rd Pioneer Bn, 12 December 1918; rejoined unit, 27 February 1919.

Marched out to England for return to Australia, 14 April 1919.

Commenced return to Australia from London on board 'Euripides', 7 September 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 20 October 1919; discharged, 4 December 1919.
