Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When an enemy shell ignited an ammunition dump, he worked unassisted until he had extinguished the fire. On two occasions he showed great courage and coolness in organizing the evacuation of ambulance waggons under very heavy shell fire.'
