Embarked from Melbourne, 25 May 1916; disembarked Plymouth, 18 July 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 28 August 1916; taken on strength, 2nd Tunnelling Company, 29 September 1916.

Found guilty of being drunk and violently resisting Military Police, 22 May 1917: awarded 15 days' Field Punishment No. 2 and fined three pounds 15 shillings. Found guilty of drunkenness, 10 July 1917: awarded 20 days' Field Punishment No. 2 and fined five pounds.

Wounded in action, 29 September 1918 (gun shot wound, left foot); transferred to England and admitted to 2nd Southern General Hospital, Bristol; discharged from hospital, 15 January 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'City of Exeter', 15 January 1919. Disembarked Pt Said, Egypt. Found guilty, 18 April 1919, of being absent from his post and of creating a disturbance: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No. 2. Re-embarked on board 'Dorset', 29 April 1919, after 54 days' treatment for venereal disease. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
