Embarked Sydney, 22 August 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 13 October 1916, and taken on strength, No 3 Command Depot. Marched in to 5th Training Bn, Rollestone, 4 November 1916.

Found guilty, 23 December 1916, of being absent without leave from 2400, 3 December, to 1200, 19 December: awarded forfeiture of 16 days' pay.

Proceeded overseas to France, 28 December 1916; taken on strength, 18th Bn, in the field, 5 February 1917.

Admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, 24 February 1917 (error of refraction, right eye); transferred to 13th Australian Field Ambulance, 24 February 1917; to 45th Casualty Clearing Station, 26 February 1917; to 24th General Hospital, Etaples, 27 February 1917 (amblyophia); discharged to duty, 12 March 1917; marched in same day to 2nd Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples.

Proceeded to England, 3 May 1917; marched in same day to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth.

Found guilty, 2 June 1917, of being absent without leave from 3 pm, 25 May 1917, until apprehended by Civil Police, 9.15 pm, 30 May 1917: awarded 7 days' confined to barracks and forfeited 6 days' pay.Found guilty, 21 June 1917, of being absent without leave from Monte Video Camp, Weymouth, from Tattoo, 20 June, to 6.30 am, 21 June 1917: admonished, and forfeited 1 day's pay.

Marched out to 15th Training Bn, Hurdcott (Home Service), 26 June 1917.

Found guilty, 30 July 1917, of being absent without leave from midnight, 8 July 1917, until 1900, 25 July 1917: awarded forfeiture of 10 days' pay; total forfeiture: 27 days' pay.

Married Kathleen ANDREWS, spinster, aged 23, at the Register Office, Gunnersbury, London, 4 August 1917.

Found guilty, Hurdcott, 13 September 1917, of being absent without leave from 1200, 17 August 1917, till apprehended at 0900, 10 September 1917: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 55 days' pay.

Admitted to Clearing Hospital, Hurdcott, 15 February 1918; marched into 15th Training Bn from hospital, 16 February 1918.

Marched out to No 2 Command Depot for return to Australia, 30 November 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Berrima', 6 September 1919; disembarked Sydney, 8 November 1919; discharged (medically unfit), 28 December 1919.
